Christians what do you think? We want to get married without a license?

My BF and I want to get married without a license. We believe that marriage was instituted by God, and that God alone has the authority to consider us married. The state really has nothing to do with it.... in our eyes at least. I do not agree with the direction that marriage is being taken in this state (California) because the constant debate about gay marriage which I see as a sin and an abomination against God. I want to get married in a church without a license and I don't really want the state or government to know about our union. We are both unmarried and completely legally able to obtain a license if we wanted to. What do you think about this?
