Why is being gay so controversial?

aren't there other things in the world we all are suppose to be worrying about? being gay is said to be an abomination based on the bible. but what about killing,stealing,adultery,being hypocritical and lying? why make one sin worst than the other? why focus so much on one sin making it a big deal and not focus on other sins? this is why i don't believe in god. too much contradiction.
